Richard’s Studio started life as a modest home recording studio, occupying a room in the basement of Richard’s house.
The usual suspects could be found, a desk pushed up against a wall, compromised speaker placement and wires everywhere.
After a few years of gear evolution, more wires, and even more gear piled up on, beside and under the desk, it became clear that the physical workspace needed an extreme makeover.
Decisions were made, plans were drawn up and tweaked endlessly until the pipes were laid and the concrete was poured. The result is what you see and what can be heard.
The Tannoy Precision 8D “Dual-Concentric™” monitors sit isolated on concrete pedestals poured into the foundation of the building. This helps to ensure that there is minimal sound transmission to the listener except through the air. Conduits in the concrete floor, speaker pedestals and in the wall panels allow interconnection of equipment without being seen.
All of the studio’s four rooms are built on a concrete foundation.
The control room is very “real” sounding, neither too dead or bright. The room has only one conventional 90 degree corner with the other three corners designed to not allow bass buildup.
